Book of Arrival

Parable of the Fruit-Bearing Trees

A man came into a large inheritance that he was the richest man in the town. He installed a market in the town that if any payed him, they may purchase food from the vendors. However, a woman came to the town's market without paying the fee, so he called the magistrate that they would hand her over to the judge for theft. When she told the truth, that she had not payed the fee, she would be found guilty and the magistrate's servants would then hack her body to pieces.

Another, very poor woman lived in this town however, and was quite healthy though she did not eat from the market for she had no money. All the other poor and starving women came to her and asked,

"How are you so healthy though you are so poor?"

And the woman said,

"When I am hungry, I eat."

And the other women were confused for they believed she was mad for stealing from the market that she might get caught and they implicated with her. But the woman said,

"Sisters, why are you so confused? You must know by now that I am not mad, for the market is taxed and I assure you, I am breaking no law."

So some of the women refused to associate with her for they did not believe her. But a few of the other women stayed for they were hungry. Then, they questioned her,

"Where is it that you are eating from?"

And the woman said,

"I will show you if you come to this spot, when the moon is not showing its light."

So the women came back to the agreed upon spot, and there they could not see the woman. She spoke to them in the darkness,

"Follow my voice." So the women, so hungry, followed the poor woman's voice and she led them out of the town and into a grove in a forest, though they could not see.

The woman spoke to them in the darkness,

"Here there are fruit bearing trees. Some of these trees make rotten fruit that will make you sick and miscarry your children, some will not harm you though they will not fill you, and some will fill you up and make you healthy."
